Aer Lingus Facing Deep Cuts To Survive.

Aer Lingus has had an operating loss of € 93m from the first half of 2009. Last year for the same time frame they had a loss of € 23m. Passenger fairs and cargo revenues being lower have resulted in a 12% lower than anticipated revenue for the first half of the year.
According to Chief Financial Officer Sean Coyle believes the airline can be made successful, but that this will occur by way of the airline being made an independent entity as it goes thru a wide range of examinations. The examinations will focus on the operations and commercial ability of the business. The operating losses can not be sustained at this level. According to Sean Coyle the operating costs will need to be restructured and the fares will need to be lowered. There are fears that if the operating costs are not cut the company will not survive any longer.
